Educação Popular na América Latina: projetos, metodologias e formações entre grupos de mulheres e feministas pela Rede Mulher-REPEMCEAAL (1980-1990).

Abstract

In this research, we investigate the changes in Popular Education by studying the experiences of the Women's Network in Brazil in the 1980s and 1990s. With this in view, we explored Rede Mulher's involvement with the Council for Adult Education in Latin America (CEAAL) and the Network for Popular Education among Women in Latin America and the Caribbean (REPEM). The categories used were social movements; Popular Education; experiences; methodology and gender. The aim was to problematize the process of change in the way Popular Education was carried out by Rede Mulher with women's movements and groups during some of the projects developed by the non-governmental organization. The main documentary sources researched were training workshops for popular educators, national and international events and meetings, project reports, notebooks, letters, and other writings that are available in the Women's Network Fund of the Documentation and Research Center (NDP), Unioeste, Toledo campus, as well as documents obtained from the National Archive Information System (SIAN). The selected documents were problematized to value the subjectivities of the experiences of educators in the development of popular education projects among women within their historical context of production. Also, among the sources analyzed are the oral sources produced during the course of this research with women who were part of the Women's Network. Qualitative interviews were carried out and the analysis methodology was based on some oral history references. In general, the objectives of this research were: a) to study Popular Education movements among women based on the educational practices carried out by Rede Mulher; b) to understand the relationship between the emergence of Rede Mulher and its involvement with Popular Education movements among women in Latin America; c) to discuss how Popular Education was instrumentalized in the projects that guided the struggles for women's rights developed by Rede Mulher; and d) to understand the changes in Popular Education based on the interviews and documents of Rede Mulher and its relationship with REPEM-CEAAL. Throughout this thesis, we have identified a restructuring in the implementation of Popular Education by the Women's Network in Brazil after the process of re-democratization and the expansion of liberal policies in the 1990s.
