Entre os muros da escola pública:relações entre reprovações escolares e formação de identidades na educação básica em Marechal Cândido Rondon-PR

Abstract

The study investigates possible influences on the formation of students’ identities based on the narratives of some students from public state schools in the town of Marechal Cândido Rondon -PR, who experienced school failures over their basic education. One of the main motivations for the research was that there is a substantial number of studies on the conditions in which teachers work, especially on teaching and learning, in contrast to the small number of studies on the difficulties faced by students, who represent one of the poles of this interaction. Keeping the conceptual categories of Experience, Identity and Subjectivity in mind, we turn my attention on the consequences of school failures over intersubjective relationships, questioning how labelling and prejudice could be associated with school failure and the impact of such on students’ sense of belonging, as well as the identification processes involved in establishing identities. This qualitative research belongs to the field of the History of the Present and is based on the techniques of Oral History. So thematic interviews were conducted with students resulting in narratives that allow us to understand, from their own perspective, their trajectories all over their schooling time, and the strategies they adopted in coping with the circumstances, as well as the repercussions of their experiences for social relationships established beyond the school gates.
