Abstract

This Master's dissertation in Environmental Sciences has as its central study question the Remaining Community of Quilombo Manoel Ciriaco dos Santos, located in the district of Maracajú dos Gaúchos, in the municipality of Guaíra, State of Paraná. Therefore, the following issues are highlighted: what themes are addressed in academic productions about the Quilombo Manoel Ciriaco dos Santos Remaining Community? The general objective of the research consists of: mapping and delimiting academic productions that have as their object of study the Quilombo Manoel Ciriaco dos Santos Remaining Community. And, also, select from these productions, research that addresses the history, identity trajectories, knowledge and sustainable practices of the community in question. The following specific objectives are indicated: a) Highlight the legal frameworks and public policies aimed at quilombola communities; b) Present a historical overview of slavery and quilombola struggle and resistance; c) Discuss the remaining quilombo communities in Brazil and the State of Paraná; d) Describe the historical path and the process of identity construction of the Quilombo Manoel Ciriaco dos Santos Remaining Community in the fight for the right to land and racial equity; e) Identify sustainable knowledge and practices to guarantee sustenance and care for the land in the Remaining Community of Quilombo Manoel Ciriaco dos Santos. It should be noted that this bibliographic and documentary research is based on qualitative analysis with an exploratory nature, as it aims at greater familiarity with the topic, considering the importance of debates and references regarding the aforementioned proposition. The methodology involved analysis of data, indicators and historical, anthropological and environmental sources that cover different perspectives. The bibliographic survey was carried out at different times, and was initially searched on the CAPES and SciELO platforms. In addition to the references found, reference works on quilombos were added to the initial survey, within the areas of History, Anthropology, Social Sciences and Environmental Sciences, as well as legislation and documents cited within the works found in the searches, which demonstrated relevance for analysis and for the research section. Theoretical and epistemological references then in the field of interdisciplinary studies of Environmental Sciences. The research made it possible to reveal the existence of knowledge and educational processes born from the resistance that emerges and is fed by the struggle inside and outside the territory, which (re)educates the quilombola movement in the territory, as well as pointing out the need to promote ethnic- racial and recognition of the struggle for public policies, rights and citizenship. Thus, the struggle of the Remaining Community of Quilombo Manoel Ciriaco dos Santos brings to the surface knowledge, sociability that is articulated with community aggregation and the right to land.
