Serviço social na educação superior: reflexões sobre o trabalho do/a assistente social nas universidades estaduais do Paraná

Abstract

This dissertation is part of the research line “Fundamentals of Social Work and the Work of Social Worker”, from the Postgraduate Program in Social Work (master's level) at the State University of Western Paraná - Unioeste, campuses Toledo- PR, and has as object of study “the work of the social worker in the state universities of Paraná”. For this, it was essential to discuss about the role attributed to Education in capitalist society in order to show that the expressions of the “social issue” directly and indirectly affect the daily lives of students, teachers and other employees of university , originating demands that require the intervention of professions such as Social Work. The way taken pointed to the important role that the profession assumes in its work in higher education, in view of the various issues experienced by the class that lives from work. For the construction of the research, we used: bibliographic research, having as source books, articles, lawsand internet pages, which deal about the educational policy and the insertion of Social Work in higher education; documentary research was used, based on the selection notices available on the websites of parana state universities; and field research, carried out through interviews with social workers and human resources pro-deans from Paraná state universities, methodology adopted in order to seek to answer the following question: considering the challenges of the rebout of capitalism on higher education - the relationships, hiring and working conditions -, how these determinations are expressed in the work of the Social Worker in the state universities of Paraná? The research shows that, in addition to the normative, political and administrative challenges and the correlations of forces that permeate the reality of hiring social workers in higher education, the challenge is also to affirm Paraná's universities as socio-occupational spaces and to consolidate the identity of profession in these institutions from the perspective of defending an emancipatory education.
