Abstract

The growth of migratory flows in Brazil has highlighted the importance of understanding how the processes of social inclusion of migrants develop in medium-sized municipalities. In this context, the municipality of Toledo (PR) is a relevant field of investigation, given the increased presence of immigrants and the mobilization of different social actors in actions aimed at their inclusion. This dissertation aimed to investigate how social practices of welcoming and integrating immigrants develop in the municipality of Toledo (PR), with an emphasis on the social dimension of sustainability. The research adopted an interpretative perspective, with a qualitative approach, of an applied nature and of an exploratory and descriptive character, using the case study as a methodological procedure. The analysis was guided by the Theory of Social Practice and by the analytical categories of guarantee of rights and regularization of documentation, socioeconomic inclusion, access to public services, non- discrimination and social recognition, and linguistic and cultural mediation, in order to support the examination of how values, meanings and daily actions structure the local dynamics of social inclusion. The data were obtained through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The interviews were examined using content analysis, while the other materials were organized through a descriptive-analytical systematization of the identified practices. The results allowed for the systematization of social practices related to the reception and integration of immigrants, highlighting gaps and potential that contribute to social sustainability and can support the formulation and improvement of public policies in the local context. As a technical-technological product, a booklet was developed to organize and disseminate these practices, expanding the reach of the results among institutions and communities involved with migration issues.
