Reestruturação produtiva e desenvolvimento do município de Paranavaí entre 1990 e 2019

Abstract

The primary objective of this thesis is to analyze the extent to which the diversification of productive structures and endogenous and exogenous factors have influenced the economic development of the Municipality of Paranavaí, Paraná, during the period from 1990 to 2019. For this purpose, the regional analysis method was employed, with the estimation of the Location Quotient (LQ), the Location Coefficient (LC), the Specialization Coefficient (SC), and the Restructuring Coefficient (RC). In this context, endogenous factors are represented by human capital and social capital, whereas exogenous factors are considered through state (federal and state-level) investments carried out in the municipality. Economic development was measured using the IPARDES Municipal Performance Index (IPDM) and its three dimensions, for the period spanning 2002 to 2019. To examine the relationship between economic development and the other explanatory variables, as well as the influence of these variables on the municipality’s development, Pearson’s Correlation and Ridge Regression techniques were employed, respectively. The results indicated that Paranavaí’s development, as measured by the IPDM, advanced by 12.93% during the analyzed period, while remaining within the medium-performance range. This outcome revealed significant progress in education and healthcare, alongside persistent weaknesses in the economic domain. Furthermore, Paranavaí has built its development trajectory on the integration of productive sectors and the strengthening of endogenous factors, thereby consolidating its role as a regional hub. Nevertheless, achieving a balance between economic growth and social development remains the central challenge to be addressed if the municipality is to attain more comprehensive and sustainable development.
