À revelia de Curitiba:as travestis na cidade “modelo” (1970-1980)

Abstract

The objective of this thesis is to investigate the constitution of transvestite subjectivities in their urban experiences, as subjects who resist or accommodate to gender and sexuality standards, the norms and censorship of Curitiba's urban space. To this end, I analyze the trajectories of Gilda de Abreu, Samantha, Primavera Bolkan, Baby Pankada, Márcia Regina and Daniele Cristine Bastos, transvestites who lived in the city during the 1970s and 1980s, the period of this research. I consider that the context of the analyses presented here is permeated by the process of reformulating Curitiba's urban space, as well as being crossed by the process of affirming transvestite identity in Brazil. To do this, I worked with a total of 313 publications from newspapers published in Curitiba and available in the National Library's Digital Hemeroteca collection. After reading and classifying these sources, I was able to identify the trajectories of the subjects who would become the objects of the research. I also relied on other sources such as urban plans and legislation and the documentaries Beijo na Boca Maldita and Daniele, carnaval e cinzas. Using the methodology of Foucauldian discourse analysis, I observed that the collective relationships of friendship, affection and struggle were fundamental, both for their displacements in the capital, which they wanted to be a model, and for the formation of their subjectivities. Their movements around Curitiba opened up paths and drew fissures, using spaces and modifying their functions, the personalities presented in this thesis transformed the city into a platform for enunciation. This appropriation of the streets, squares, corners and halls by Curitiba's transvestites transformed these practiced places and allowed for the construction of bonds of affection, which enhanced the constitution of their transvestilities.
