A agricultura familiar e sua importância na economia da microrregião de Toledo - PR

Abstract

This research has the theme of family farming and its importance in the economy of the microregion of Toledo - PR, which is composed of twenty-one municipalities and one of its main sources of income is agriculture, due to the high production and the high level of applied technology. The region was colonized from the mid-1940s, with many small properties, which gives it a different profile in rural areas. The objective of the present workpaper was to point out the main productive chains managed by family farming and to measure the economic and productive importance of family farming in the microregion in the period 2016/2017. The study is characterized by an approach that involves the use of both quantitative and qualitative methods and the database was composed of information from the annual report (2017) of the Gross Value of Agricultural Production (GVP), information from the 2017 Agricultural Census (IBGE) and information from the Central Bank. The results show that concerning grain cultivation (corn and soybeans), family farming accounts for over 30% of total production; about swine and poultry activities, which require greater investment and a greater volume of labor, family and non-family farming are similar; regarding activities that require intensive use of labor and activities that can be developed in adverse terrains, such as fruit, vegetables and milk production, the participation of family farming is more expressive. It was possible to verify that, although family farming has a larger number of establishments, considering only the value of production, family farming is lower than non-family farming, but it still has economic and social importance in the region.
