O acesso e assistência em saúde mental à migrantes internacionais nos Centros de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS) do município de Toledo, Paraná

Abstract

The theme of this dissertation is the international migration and mental health, and its general objective is to analyze the access to mental health services of the migrant population in the municipality of Toledo. To make this possible, the following specific objectives were listed: a) to understand the implications of the migratory process on the mental health of international migrants, b) to discuss the mental health care offered through the Unified Health System (SUS) and institutionalized by the Mental Health Policy (PNSM), c) to analyze the demands regarding mental health presented by international migrants assisted in the municipality of Toledo-PR. In this sense, the problem that the present research was concerned with consisted of the following question: What determinants enable and limit mental health services in the city of Toledo-PR? To answer this question, a qualitative research was used, of an exploratory type and of a documentary and field nature, using as research sources legislation, health care plans and mental health and semi-structured interviews carried out with the coordinates of the Psychosocial Care Center of the municipality of Toledo-PR (CAPS). It is expected, with the work presented here, to bring to public knowledge how mental health care has been provided to international migrants by the mental health network of the municipality of Toledo, taking into account the importance of the category migration throughout history and, currently, under such particular and contradictory determinants that link it as inherent to the capitalist mode of production. It is also expected that the present work will contribute to stimulating research on the theme of migration and mental health and the importance of making this population visible, so that they have a service consistent with their needs and particularities. As well as in the construction of actions and projects that contribute to the access and quality of health services.
