Abstract

The present research brings as a central theme the work of social worker in the scope of student assistance at UNILA and UNILAB universities, its methodological path sought to answer the research problem expressed by the following question: What is the particularity of the demands and requests placed on UNILA social workers? and UNILAB with regard to serving students of different nationalities? In order to answer this research problem, the general objective was established: To apprehend and analyze the work of social workers in assisting students of different nationalities at UNILA and UNILAB. This objective unfolded in the specific objectives that are: I - To identify the different nationalities of the students of the universities UNILA and UNILAB; II - analyze what understanding, knowledge and structure social workers have to serve students of different nationalities; III - Analyze the meaning of the work of social workers in attending students considering the reality of the education system and the particularity of attending students of different nationalities at UNILA and UNILAB. Thus, the mediations carried out on the work of social workers in these spaces required a methodological path with the support of bibliographic and documentary research and field research, through the application of questionnaires to the social workers of student assistance at UNILA and UNILAB. From the analytical categories presented by the reality data obtained by the field research carried out, it was possible to establish an analytical methodological path that, at first, discussed the contradictions of the capitalist system and the education system, with an emphasis on higher education, dealt with the foundations of the categories work, “social issue” and Social Work and, finally, presented the data of reality and the theoretical analytical reflections made possible, which indicate, as a particularity for the work of social workers of the researched institutions, the limits to apprehend the requests and substantive demands presented due to the diversity of international students.
