Abstract: Introduction: Diabetic individuals with untreated periodontal disease are known
to be more predisposed to glycemic imbalance and the consequent development
of diabetes-related complications. Due to the impaired quality of life caused by
type 2 diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease, studies are needed to
investigate the relationship between the two diseases and the mechanisms
involved in this association, seeking ways to minimize the consequences of these
changes to individual health. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is an
adjunctive treatment to scaling and root planing (SRP) that can contribute to
improving periodontal outcomes, especially in patients with compromised
healing, such as decompensated type 2 diabetics. Objective: To compare,
through clinical analysis, the use of three aPDT applications as adjunctive therapy
to non-surgical periodontal treatment of stage III and IV periodontitis in type 2
diabetic patients (T2DM). Methods: Twenty patients were evaluated in a
randomized, split-mouth clinical trial. The inclusion criteria were: patients of both
sexes, aged 25 to 65 years, with type 2 DM (glycated hemoglobin ≥ 7%) and
Stage III or IV periodontitis. All selected patients underwent non-surgical
periodontal treatment and were evaluated using clinical parameters: plaque
index, probing depth, clinical attachment level, and bleeding on probing.
Laboratory tests (fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and lipid profile)
were requested. In addition, gingival crevicular fluid was quantified. The side for
each treatment was defined by randomization. aPDT was performed immediately
after SRP and reapplied at 7 and 14 days, in combination with a low-level laser
(660 nm) and methylene blue (10 mg/ml). Patients were evaluated for a total
period of 12 months, comprising the periods of baseline, 3, 6, and 12 months.
Results: The results demonstrate an improvement in periodontal outcomes at 3,
6, and 12 months, with no significant difference between the SRP and SRP+PDT
groups. There was a statistically significant reduction in glycated hemoglobin
levels during the reassessment periods compared to baseline. Conclusion: We
can conclude that adjunctive PDT to SRP did not provide additional clinical
benefits in periodontal parameters in this patient profile, but that basic periodontal
treatment was effective in reducing glycated hemoglobin levels and,
consequently, improved metabolic control.

Abstract: Second-degree burns are among the most common skin injuries, characterized by
intense pain and high sensitivity. Previous in vitro studies have shown that sericin
stimulates fibroblast migration and may favor lesion re-epithelialization.
Photobiomodulation, whose anti-inflammatory effect is widely recognized, also
presents therapeutic potential. Thus, both the isolated use of each of these
approaches and their association were analyzed, with the objective of investigating
their contribution to the recovery of experimentally induced second-degree burns. For
this purpose, male Wistar rats were randomized into six groups: a control group
(CON) that received no treatment; a group treated with silver sulfadiazine ointment
(SUL); a group treated with sericin cream (SER); a group treated with low-level laser
photobiomodulation (LBP); a group treated with sulfadiazine and laser (SUL+LBP);
and a group treated with sericin and laser (SER+LBP). Each group consisted of 20
animals, 12 weeks old and approximately 350g. The groups were subdivided, with
half of the animals euthanized after 7 days (D7) and the other half after 14 days
(D14) following lesion induction. The burn was caused by contact with a metal
instrument previously heated in a direct flame with the anesthetized animal's skin for
a period of 3 seconds. Macroscopic evaluation by photography, thermography by
photothermography, and histomorphometry of intact and lesioned skin were
performed. A systematic review with meta-analysis was also conducted, considering
articles that report the use of photobiomodulation in burn treatment. For statistical
analysis, the generalized linear models test was performed with p=0.05. No statistical
differences were found regarding lesion area among the 7-day groups; however,
there was a statistical difference (p<0.05) between the CON and LBP groups and the
others, as they presented a reduction in burned area. There was a statistical
difference between the AV0 and AV1 evaluations in the analysis of lesion surface
temperature in the 7- and 14-day groups (p>0.05). However, there was no difference
in the analysis of granulation tissue formation scale among any group. Regarding
collagen deposition, the SER, LBP, SUL+LBP, and SER+LBP groups were different
from the CON control group, with higher scores on the scale used (p<0.05); the
SER+LBP group also presented a higher percentage of type I collagen, being
statistically different from the other groups (p<0.05). In the molecular analyses of the
14-day groups, there was a reduction in TNFα, TBARS, and CAT concentrations
(p<0.05), especially in the treatments combined with LBP, indicating a reduction in
oxidative stress. The study pointed to an improvement in the tissue healing process,
and further analyses could further elucidate the mechanisms of skin repair in the
analyzed animals

Abstract: Introduction: The growing demands in the field of mental health and the
transformations in care practices highlight tensions between different models of care.
The persistence of the biomedical paradigm in community-based services challenges
the principles of the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform and undermines the development of
interdisciplinary approaches. Institutional analysis offers a theoretical-methodological
framework capable of revealing instituted forces, instituting movements, and analyzers
present in practices, allowing for an understanding of how certain rationalities are
maintained or transformed within institutions. Objective: To analyze how psychiatry
guides care practices and interprofessional relations within teams at psychosocial care
centers (CAPS), based on the theoretical framework of Institutional Analysis.
Methodology: This is a qualitative, exploratory study based on semi-structured
interviews with six psychologists and six psychiatrists working in psychosocial care
centers across different regions of Brazil. Data were analyzed using thematic content
analysis, by Bardin, with interpretation grounded in Institutional Analysis, in dialogue
with the field of collective health. Results and Discussion: Six thematic categories
emerged from the interviews: 1. conceptions of mental health, 2. conceptions of mental
illness, 3. the role of psychiatry, 4. conceptions of care, 5. foundations of effective care,
and 6. conditions and challenges for multiprofessional collaboration. Psychiatry has
been recognized as an institution that exerts influence over care practices and work
dynamics, upholding biomedical and hierarchical rationalities — expressions of the
instituted. The analyzers such as crisis management, diagnostic logic, and
professional hierarchies reveal tensions and contradictions within the studied context.
Meanwhile, instituting forces drive the redefinition of care, promote user autonomy,
strengthen multiprofessional collaboration, and challenge medicalization. Final
Considerations: The study reveals the institutional role of psychiatry within CAPS,
whose biomedical hegemony shapes clinical practices, professional relationships, and
modes of care organization. Although at times acknowledged as contributive and even
expected by teams, this centrality tends to constrain broader perspectives, relegating
psychosocial and collective approaches to a secondary place. In this context, tensions
and ambiguities emerge: different professional groups, both medical and non-medical,
reproduce hegemonic logic while simultaneously expressing resistance and openness
to interdisciplinary and innovative practices. These disputes highlight possibilities for
the reinvention of care and professional relations, underscoring the need for strategies
that foster multiprofessional cooperation and critical reflection on the ways of acting
and interacting within mental health services.

Abstract: Introduction: A novel type of virus, named SARS-CoV-2, triggered the 2019
coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which was declared a pandemic by the World Health
Organization in 2020. Other viral infections with maternal-fetal risks have previously
been reported, such as the Zika virus, which led to an increase in cases of
microcephaly in infants born to mothers infected during pregnancy. This highlights the
importance of monitoring infants born to mothers infected with SARS-CoV-2 during
pregnancy, as the long-term impacts on this group remain uncertain. This raises the
question: do infants exposed to SARS-CoV-2 in utero exhibit alterations in
neuropsychomotor development during the first years of life? Objective: To evaluate
the neuropsychomotor development of infants born to mothers infected with SARS CoV-2 during pregnancy, compared to those born to uninfected mothers during the
same period, between 18 and 24 months of age. Methods: This is a quantitative,
epidemiological, analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design,
conducted in the municipality of Cascavel, Paraná, Brazil. The sample was divided into
two groups: Group 01, composed of 19 children born to mothers infected with SARS CoV-2 during pregnancy (Exposed Group - EG); and Group 02, composed of 31
children born to mothers who were not infected with SARS-CoV-2 (Non-Exposed
Group - NEG). Participants were randomly selected from municipal health information
systems covering the period from March 2020 to December 2021, and assessment
appointments were scheduled accordingly. Data collection took place from October
2022 to September 2023 and involved a structured interview with the mother or legal
guardian (including demographic, social, and health-related information), using a
validated instrument. Neuropsychomotor development was assessed using the Bayley
Scales of Infant and Toddler Development – Third Edition (Bayley-III) and the Ages
and Stages Questionnaire – Third Edition (ASQ-3, Brazilian version). Data analysis
was performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and JASP
software. Statistical tests were selected according to data distribution and included
Fisher’s Exact Test, Chi-Square Test with Yates’ correction, and Student’s T-test.
Results: The characterization instrument used for the sample demonstrated a content
validity index of 0.85, indicating strong content equivalence. When comparing the
Bayley-III and ASQ-3 scales for assessing infant neuropsychomotor development,
moderate correlations were observed between the "communication" domains (r =
0.535, p < 0.001). However, these findings were not sufficient to confirm equivalence
between the two instruments. Neuropsychomotor development outcomes showed no
statistically significant differences between the NEG and EG groups across both
assessment tools (Bayley-III: p = 0.39; ASQ-3: p = 0.21 to 0.85 across domains).
Conclusions: Infants born to mothers who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 during
pregnancy did not demonstrate significant neuropsychomotor developmental
alterations between 18 and 24 months of age when compared to those born to SARS CoV-2 negative mothers.
