Abstract: Family agribusiness emerges as a relevant alternative for income diversification, value addition and job generation. However, this sector confronts several challenges that limit its development, standing out the high level of informality and low adherence to Inspection System. In this context, Animal Origin Product (AOP) chains are at a critical discussion point, especially regarding to safe food production from sanitary, socially fair and sustainable point of view. The present study aimed to investigate the current situation of AOP production and processing in municipalities of the Western Region of Parana State. Based on collected data, possible impacts of implementing a consortium among municipalities bordering Lake Itaipu were analyzed, focusing on validation of products originating from family farming, especially with regard to monitoring and sanitary inspection of AOP. The proposal aims to improve compliance with sanitary standards, increase AOP production and diversify agricultural families’ income. For this purpose, it was adopted an interview-based methodology, in that participants answered a set of questions related to inspection systems and producer adherence in their respective regions. Obtained data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively, in order to comprehensively and understand the faced difficulties. Results indicated that actual situation presents limiting factors: most professionals do not act exclusively as SIM managers; slaughterhouses shortage with permanent inspection, and inhabitant’s number, GDP per capita and HDI do not influence agro-industries number. Regarding to inspection agencies, there is a lack of interest from producers, absence of adequate physical structure, bureaucracy and low incentive from government officials. However, it was noted that there is a close relationship between producers and municipal leaders and that managers and producers do not show benefits knowledge of implementing Inspection Systems through an Intermunicipal Consortium. It is expected that consortium implementation have positive impacts, especially in terms of health compliance, increased production and improvement of socioeconomic factors. This initiative can be considered a viable solution to overcome limits confronted by family agribusinesses, promoting more sustainable and equitable region development. Obtained data in this study and the possibilities discussed regarding to consortium viabilization can contribute significantly to formulation of public policies more effective and to development of strategies aimed at strengthening family farming and agribusiness in Parana State, Western Region.

Abstract: This study aimed to identify and understand the social and labor differences that permeate the professional advancement of women in the municipality of Toledo/PR. Employing a mixed methodology, which combined the analysis of secondary data from the Annual Social Information Report (RAIS) with the collection of primary data via structured questionnaires applied to 54 women in leadership positions, the research revealed a panorama of advancements and persistent inequalities. Sociodemographic results showed that, despite high educational qualifications (50% with specialization/MBA) and a central financial role in their families, there is a striking sectoral segregation, with 73.58% of leaders concentrated in the Services sector. The analysis of income differentials confirmed that women consistently earn less than men at all education levels, and that 22% of them did not receive a salary increase upon career progression, with 52.94% feeling that their remuneration is below ideal. The influence of family structure indicated that the double burden and motherhood significantly impact career progression, with 64.70% of women facing work-life balance difficulties. Finally, the evaluation of organizational difficulties highlighted structural barriers such as prejudice (31.40%) and lack of career planning (29.40%). Counterintuitively, the study challenged the generalization of the "Queen Bee Syndrome," demonstrating predominant solidarity and mutual support among women leaders. In conclusion, the research reiterates the need for transformative organizational and public policies that deconstruct biases, promote transparency, and ensure truly equitable work environments for the full recognition of female merit.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to assess the causes of the decline in babassu production and its effects on social enterprises linked to this extractivist activity. These enterprises contribute to the consolidation of a local agri-food system, generating income and preserving the cultural identity of the babassu coconut breakers, who constitute the social group of the activity and embody an innovative experience within the babassu agri-food context. These women use babassu, a native palm of the Cocais Forest – a transition zone between the Amazon, Cerrado, and Caatinga biomes – to produce a variety of items, such as oil, flour, and other foods, in addition to charcoal and handicrafts. The study was conducted in the state of Maranhão, which has a long tradition of babassu extractivism and hosts a diversity of organized extractivist groups. The collection of primary data was concentrated in the municipalities of Anajatuba and Itapecuru-Mirim, located in the northern region of the state of Maranhão. These municipalities belong to the Maranhão Amazon, a territory with distinctive characteristics that deserve to be highlighted in studies conducted within this scope. Secondary data were obtained from the Forest Extraction and Silviculture Production (PEVS) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), referring to the amount produced in tons and the production value in reais (R$) of babassu almonds in Brazil, in Maranhão, and in the municipalities of Anajatuba/MA and Itapecuru-Mirim/MA. In addition, primary data were collected from two groups linked to babassu activity in these municipalities. Representatives of these groups were interviewed to characterize the local agri-food system, and subsequently focus groups were conducted to identify the social group’s perceptions regarding the causes and effects of the production decline on the social enterprises of the activity. The results pointed to a decrease in the workforce – mainly due to the absence of generational succession – as well as deforestation of babassu groves, among other factors that threaten the continuity of this traditional practice. Furthermore, the research revealed structural differences among the groups, such as evidence that in one of them most women do not identify themselves as coconut breakers. The study stands out for its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), directly encompassing SDGs 1, 8, and 10, which respectively address poverty eradication, decent work and economic growth, and the reduction of inequalities.

Abstract: This study examines the demographic trajectory of Japanese immigration and its descendants in Paraná, as well as their geographic distribution. It encompasses three principal phases: the experimental phase (1908–1925), the migratory peak (1925–1941), and the post-war consolidation (after 1945). Each stage was marked by decisive events, from the arrival of the first immigrants in Brazil in 1908 aboard the Kasato Maru to the commencement of migration to the State of Paraná in 1909, the revisions of immigration policies during the Vargas Era, the suspension of migration during World War II, and its resumption in 1952. The demographic analysis of these flows is situated within its historical context, while the spatial distribution of immigrants and their descendants is investigated with regard to their historical and economic significance to the State of Paraná. The study aims to characterize the evolution of this population over time, taking into account settlement patterns and the political, economic, and social factors that influenced its integration.
