Abstract: In this review, we synthesize the literature on the freeze-drying of aquatic products to analyze the current state of research on this topic worldwide. In total, 345 publications met the inclusion criteria. It was observed that, from 1958 onwards, the volume of published studies grew considerably, distributed across 181 journals in the areas of Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Food Science and Engineering. The journals Food Chemistry (6.96%), International Journal of Biological Macromolecules (2.90%), Journal of Food Science (2.90%), and Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture (2.90%) concentrated the largest number of publications. The study of freeze-drying in aquatic products has sparked the interest of researchers in 51 countries. However, scientific output has been concentrated in China (21.74%) and the United States (8.70%). In contrast, publications originating from Oceania, Africa, and Central America have remained scarce. Furthermore, although the research covered 12 different types of raw materials, fish (64.68%) was the main target of the investigations. Among the fish species, Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was the one with the greatest interest for the application of the freeze-drying method (7.20%) in the studies. There was a predominance of studies involving muscle tissues and their derivatives (41.13%) and protein biomolecules (23.38%). The focus of most of the research was related to the areas of Food Engineering (48.93%) and Analytical Chemistry (17.91%). Predominance observed in most of the countries analyzed. However, although the scope of the studies has changed over the years, most publications have remained in already established areas. Furthermore, research is needed to reduce energy costs and improve equipment, aiming to expand access to freeze-drying in regions where its use is still limited. In addition, it is essential to delve deeper into underexplored fields such as Animal Health and Genetics, as well as investigations into the freeze-drying of aquatic by-products, with the goal of adding value and ensuring the sustainability of the process.

Abstract: This research investigates the socioeconomic conditions and quality of life of professional fishers operating in the surroundings of Ilha Grande National Park, located in the Upper Paraná River Basin, a region marked by profound environmental transformations resulting from river damming and the establishment of protected areas. Developed in a multipaper format, the dissertation articulates two complementary empirical studies based on interviews with 59 professional fishers, combining descriptive analysis, content analysis, and multidimensional perceptual assessment. The first study characterizes the socioeconomic and productive profile of these fishers, highlighting the aging of the category, low educational attainment, economic dependence on fishing, declining income, and changes in fish composition associated with historical damming processes along the Paraná River. The second study deepens this analysis by evaluating fishers’ quality of life across economic, social, and environmental dimensions, comparing the fishers’ own perceptions with assessments of institutional governance. The findings reveal significant divergences between these rationalities, indicating that quality of life cannot be understood through isolated or exclusively institutional indicators, but rather as a multidimensional construct shaped by environmental, economic, and social factors, as well as by traditional fishing knowledge. By shedding light on tensions between environmental conservation, public policies, and traditional ways of life, this research contributes to the debate on professional fishing in protected areas and to the formulation of management strategies that are more responsive to the social realities of fishing communities.

<title>Análise da viabilidade técnico econômica na criação de tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) em tanques escavados em Rondônia, Brasil</title>

Abstract: Aquaculture has emerged as one of the most dynamic agro-productive activities worldwide, contributing to food security, income generation, and regional development. In Brazil, fish farming has gained increasing importance, with tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) standing out as the main native species cultivated, especially in the Amazon region. The present study aimed to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of tambaqui farming in earthen ponds in the state of Rondônia, evaluating productive and financial performance indicators, as well as comparing management strategies, with emphasis on partial harvesting. For this purpose, the research was conducted on a fish farm of 125.2 hectares, located in Cujubim (RO), consisting of 34 grow-out ponds and 11 nursery ponds. Data collected between 2018 and 2022 were analyzed, including production costs, feed prices, revenues, and zootechnical indicators. The economic analyses included the calculation of Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period, Gross Margin, Profitability Index, and Break-even Point, complemented by sensitivity simulations. The results showed that the initial investment was R$ 7,499,693.43, with an annual operating cost of R$ 6,219,530.54. Feed accounted for 82.4% of total costs. The average productivity reached 7,223.99 kg/ha/year, with a gross margin of 9.10% and profitability of 8.33%. The financial analysis indicated a negative NPV (-R$ 30,337,583.19) and an IRR of -6.11% for a minimum attractive rate of 10%, demonstrating economic unfeasibility under current conditions. However, the sensitivity analysis showed that a 10% increase in fish selling price (R$ 8.83/kg) would result in a positive NPV of R$ 18,814,111.43 and an IRR of 17.26%, making the activity economically viable. In the comparative study between management strategies, partial harvesting showed higher productivity (10,474.34 kg/ha) but higher costs and lower profitability (1.81%) compared to total harvesting (13.88%), which proved to be more economically efficient.

<title>Influência do barramento de um rio neotropical sobre as comunidades de peixes, zooplâncton e a qualidade da água</title>

Abstract: Damming for purposes of electric energy production have been explored for several decades, with the rivers of the Neotropical region being very affected by such projects. In this study, we intend to evaluate the influence of damming Cantu river on fish and zooplankton communities and on the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of water quality, as well as to verify the relationship between communities and water quality before and after damming. The results showed that, after damming, fish and zooplankton communities were restructured, and that the parameters evaluated for water quality also showed differences and influence on the communities. The most influential characteristics were water temperature, transparency, turbidity and chlorophyll-a concentration. Therefore, we conclude that comparative studies between periods (pre and post damming) for reservoir formation purposes should be maintained to identify such changes and to promote mitigation measures to the impacts.
