Abstract: The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of moisture on the separation of the CH4-CO2-H2O mixture by the pressure swing adsorption process using an adsorbent bed composed of babassu coconut shell activated carbon (CACC) and zeolite 13X. For this purpose, an adsorption equilibrium study was conducted for pure components, using experimental data from literature. The Langmuir and Multisite Langmuir adsorption isotherm models were evaluated, and the selectivity in relation to carbon dioxide were calculated. A study of the adsorption kinetics of CH4 and CO2 components was also made by obtaining experimental data from breakthrough curves in diluted systems (CH4:He and CO2:He) and by evaluating two mathematical models (LDF and Bi-LDF). For the validation of the equilibrium and kinetic studies in single-component systems, experimental breakthrough curve data for the binary CH4-CO2 system were obtained and compared with the predictions of mathematical models (LDF and Bi-LDF). Subsequently, simulations of a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) unit were carried out, operating in a Skarstrom type cycle, with two columns packed with CACC and zeolite 13X under different adsorption pressure conditions (1 to 5 bar) to evaluate the impact of moisture on the separation of the CH4-CO2-H2O mixture. The equilibrium study indicated that up to a pressure of 6 bar, both isotherms similarly describe the adsorption equilibrium of the pure components, and from this pressure, the Multisite Langmuir isotherm describes better the experimental data. At this stage, it was also found that zeolite 13X has practically no selectivity for CO2 in the presence of H2O, while CACC maintains the ability to remove CO2 from the mixture in the presence of H2O. The kinetic study (single-component and binary) indicated that both mathematical models evaluated (LDF and Bi-LDF) describe the experimental data well and similarly. Finally, the PSA unit simulations indicated that increasing the adsorption pressure leads to higher CH4 purity values and lower values of CH4 recovery ([1 bar, 71.9%, 87.2%]; [3 bar, 92.3%, 53,9%]; [5 bar, 95.5%, 21.8%]), therefore, the use of a bed composed of babassu coconut shell activated carbon and zeolite 13X is shown to be a potential alternative for the production of biomethane from the enrichment of the CH4-CO2 mixture in the presence of up to 1%mol moisture.

Abstract: This work focused on the monitoring the quality of the water around the net tanks for commercial tilapia production under development at a property located in the Lower Iguaçu River, at the Salto Caxias Reservoir, Paraná-Brazil, in the municipality of Três Barras do Paraná-PR, in the period from May 2016 to April 2017. It was carried out the monitoring of physical-chemical parameters of water quality, such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen content, electrical conductivity, transparency and turbidity, as well as determination of metals in water samples using fluorescence spectrometry technique Full Reflection X-ray SR-TXRF. The obtained results allowed to conclude that the average values of the water quality variables of the reservoir considered for the sampling points did not present significant variation. In relation to metals, zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), calcium (Ca) and potassium (K) were identified and quantified. Significant concentration variation was observed only in two-month samplings for copper and iron metals. Thus, with respect to the parameters described and analyzed, these are in accordance with the conditions and standards allowed for class II waters, according to resolution n. 357/2005-CONAMA. The breeding of fish in the net tanks did not affect the environmental integrity of the reservoir in question, and it is conducive to intensive fish farming.

Abstract: The monitoring of the resorts of Porto Mendes, Entre Rios do Oeste and Águas e Terras, aimed to determine the physical, chemical, microbiological and toxicological properties of three resorts on Lake Itaipu, on the Paraná River, located in the western region of the state. The points were monitored for a period of 12 months, from March 2022 to February 2023, and evaluated and quantified how the respective properties behaved over the period, which comprised the four seasons of the year. In addition, knowing the physical, chemical and microbiological quantitative of the aquatic environment was important in the detection of possible pollutants, fecal and total coliforms and toxic agents. Toxicity tests were carried out, used to indicate the presence of contaminants in the three spas. For this, the freshwater microcrustacean, Ceriodaphnia dubia, was used, evaluating it in relation to reproduction and mortality. The reproduction of the test microorganisms was inhibited in the reproduction of neonates in the following months and resorts: april, resort 1; october, seaside resort 1; november, resort 2 and 3 and february, resort 1. The physical, chemical, microbiological and toxicological properties suffered interference from local and regional factors. The results obtained from the chemical, physical and microbiological analyzes were statistically analyzed and studied through principal component analysis (PCA), in which the variables were correlated in 5 significant axes and explained in 72,8%. The axes showed the correction between the studied variables.

Abstract: Microalgae can be considered great allies in the context of environmental sustainability, since they are potential sources of a large amount of bioproducts. Among the products of high added value and of biotechnological interest are lipids and pigments, the latter comprising chlorophylls and carotenoids. Lipids can be applied in the biofuel and food industries, and pigments play an important role in the raw materials of the pharmaceutical, food supplement and cosmetic industries. In this work the microalgae Desmodesmus sp. was submitted to different culture conditions, where the nutritional concentrations of micronutrients and macronutrients and spectral ranges were varied, with the objective of maximizing the production of lipids and pigments in each condition. The results of the production of bioproducts in cultures with different amounts of micronutrients and in different spectral ranges were evaluated by analysis of variance - ANOVA at 10% level and by the test of means comparison - Tukey, which suggested the dispensation of micronutrient supplementation and the red LED light as being the most conducive to lipid synthesis, which under optimized conditions increased by 23.82%. For photosynthetic pigments, which involve chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total carotenoids, white fluorescent light and micronutrient supplementation were the imposed conditions that most favored their production, which reached 61.19 µg mL-1, 54.41 µg mL-1, 18.07 µg mL-1, respectively.
