Abstract: This study aims to identify the impact of rainfall over Southeastern South America (SEAS) during the simultaneous occurrence of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). Unlike important previous studies, this work considers the concurrent occurrence of these two modes of climate variability, including combinations with the same sign and with opposite signs across all ENSO typologies (Eastern, Central, and Mixed). To obtain the results, the IOD phases were initially identified using the Dipole Mode Index (DMI), while the ENSO phases were identified through the Oceanic Niño Index (ONI). The impacts on precipitation over SEAS were assessed using rainfall anomaly composites. To understand the mechanisms associated with these anomalies, composite maps of geopotential height anomalies at 200 hPa and omega anomalies at 200 hPa and 500 hPa were also produced. The results first revealed a predominance of combinations between ENSO and IOD events with the same sign, particularly in the Mixed ENSO typology. Another noteworthy finding was the absence of co-occurrence between Eastern and Central El Niño events with negative IOD (IOD-) events. The dissertation hypothesis — that ENSO effects over SEAS would be stronger when combined with IOD phases of the same sign — was partially confirmed. Events such as Eastern El Niño and Eastern La Niña indeed showed intensified effects when associated with IOD phases of the same sign. However, opposite-sign combinations between the modes, such as Mixed El Niño with IOD-, Central La Niña with IOD+, and Mixed La Niña with IOD+, proved to be more effective in terms of the intensity of impacts over SEAS. Another relevant result was observed in the combination of Central La Niña and IOD-, which produced intense positive precipitation anomalies over SEAS, indicating that, in this case, the Indian Ocean interannual mode outweighed the ENSO effects.

Abstract: Despite significant technological advancements, Brazilian agriculture remains intrinsically dependent on climatic conditions, with soybean being one of the most vulnerable crops. This research aimed to evaluate the influence of rainfall variability on soybean yields in the municipality of Marechal Cândido Rondon – PR, covering the period from the 2009/2010 to 2022/2023 harvest seasons. The methodology adopted a quanti-qualitative approach based on episodic analysis, correlating daily precipitation data and crop phenological phases with productivity indices that showed significant deviations (above or below one standard deviation from the historical average). The role of the El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon during these periods was also investigated. The results demonstrated that the total accumulated rainfall volume during the growing season is not the primary indicator of productive success. Instead, the temporal distribution of precipitation specifically the occurrence or absence of rain during the critical stages of flowering and grain filling (December and January) proved to be the determining factor for local yields. It was observed that a regular distribution of rain during these critical months was capable of neutralizing the drought effects expected in La Niña years, resulting in high yields; a phenomenon discussed here as the "La Niña paradox." Conversely, prolonged dry spells during the reproductive stage were decisive in crop failures, even in years with apparently adequate total rainfall volumes. This study concludes that the quality of episodic rainfall distribution supersedes the generic influence of ENSO, suggesting that short-term monitoring of water conditions is more strategic for local producers than exclusive reliance on seasonal climate forecasts.

<title>A relação com o saber e com o ensinar por parte dos professores de Geografia da Educação Básica em Marechal Cândido Rondon – PR</title>

Abstract: This thesis investigates the relationship with knowledge and with teaching among Basic Education Geography teachers working in the Final Years of Elementary School within the state school system of Marechal Cândido Rondon – PR. The study is grounded in Bernard Charlot’s theoretical perspective on the theory of the relationship with knowledge, articulating it, among others, with the dialogues of António Nóvoa and José Carlos Libâneo, as well as the premises of School Geography authors, especially from Lana Cavalcanti's perspective. The central objective was to analyze how Basic Education Geography teachers relate to knowledge and teaching in the current school context, in order to comprehend the meanings attributed to professional practice, the mobilization to teach amidst the current educational landscape in Paraná, relational dynamics, and teacher perceptions of contemporary challenges in the discipline. Methodologically, the research follows a qualitative approach and adopts an online questionnaire and the focus group technique as data collection instruments. The sample consisted of 19 Geography teachers working in state schools in the aforementioned municipality during the year 2025. For data analysis and processing, Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA) was employed, from which four categories emerged: 1) Cartographies of choice and permanence; 2) Gears of control; 3) Territories in conflict; and 4) The awakening of mobilization. The categories evidenced that, although the choice for teaching holds meanings of personal fulfillment, permanence is threatened by a scenario of precarity and illness. It was observed that the managerialist logic, guided by the centrality of external evaluations and compulsory promotion policies, among other broader structural issues, runs counter to the principles of intellectual activity necessary for learning and strips away teacher autonomy. This process silences the critical potential of Geography, hindering the development of geographical thinking and generating ethical conflicts between prescribed and actual work. However, the research highlights that teacher mobilization persists in the affective bond with the student and in the belief that geographical knowledge is essential for reading the world. It is concluded that the act of teaching Geography reaffirms itself not as the fulfillment of targets, but as an ethical commitment to humanization.

Abstract: This work aims to analyze and discuss different aspects of the political history of the United States of America, using as sources the comic books that make up the trilogy The Dark Knight, written by Frank Miller in the years 1986, 2001, and 2015. The comics present a story where the superhero Batman, now older and retired, returns to his activities as a vigilante, establishing debates about the notions of hero, vigilantism, state control, individual freedoms, and different political positions. Miller uses aspects of American culture, ranging from notions of the selfmade man to the imagery of a common evil for a greater good, using terms to refer to the obstacles to the success of Batman and his project against crime, such as "fascists," "terrorists," or "fanatics." Each moment of production and release of the works comprises different facets of the political history of the United States of America, such as the Cold War and the Reagan era in the 1980s, the attacks on the Twin Towers at the end of 2001 and the American incursions in the Middle East, or even the final years of Barack Obama's presidency and the 2016 presidential race that elected Donald Trump as head of state. We explore the debates surrounding the different notions and political aspects that shaped these historical moments, as well as their impacts and reflections on society. By aligning our analyses of a comic book with the political debates of different eras, we offer a broad perspective on how a renowned author of such cultural manifestations, like Frank Miller, observes and produces work about the society in which he lives, listing everyday elements in his fictional works. The objective of this thesis, therefore, is to establish a dialogue between the Political History of the United States, comic books, and the universe created by Frank Miller in The Dark Knight, and to explore their relationships, similarities, and differences, with regard to the stories and their respective temporalities.
