Abstract: The objective of the study was to analyze the growth of lettuce in a hydroponic &#xD;
system, supplemented with red and blue LEDs, under partially controlled climatic &#xD;
conditions. The goal is to obtain results indicating that the use of red and blue light &#xD;
leads to greater efficiency in production, surpassing the growth of lettuce without &#xD;
supplemental lighting. Seedlings were first grown in a nursery for a few days and &#xD;
then transferred to an NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) hydroponic system. The &#xD;
plnts were exposed to natural light, with and without supplemental LED Grow &#xD;
lighting, for 32 days. At the end of this period, several parameters were evaluated: &#xD;
number of leaves (NF), root length (CR), STEM LENGTH (CC), stem diameter &#xD;
(DCA), fresh root mass (MVP), fresh root mass (MVR), fresh stem mass (MVC), &#xD;
dry shoot mass (MSP), dry root mass (MSR), and dry stem mass (MSC). The &#xD;
experiment considered climatic variations into account. Smooth-lettuce stood out &#xD;
for having a higher number of leaves and fresh mass, regardless of the lighting &#xD;
source. Curly lettuce showed better root development under natural light. It is &#xD;
concluded that artificial light is a viable alternative; however, natural light may be &#xD;
more efficient for sensitive cultivars.

Abstract: Access to water for irrigation and agricultural activities in remote rural areas often &#xD;
depends on alternative energy solutions, especially in locations without connection to &#xD;
the electric power grid. This study presents the development and experimental &#xD;
investigation of a water pumping system driven by a floating water wheel, designed to &#xD;
operate exclusively through the hydrokinetic energy of a natural watercourse. The &#xD;
system was constructed, installed, and tested along a stretch of the Tormenta River, &#xD;
in the municipality of Catanduvas, in the state of Paraná, Brazil, where measurements &#xD;
of pumped flow rate, manometric head, torque, rotational speed, and current velocity &#xD;
were performed. Based on the experimental data, hydraulic power, mechanical power, &#xD;
and pumping power were determined, as well as the hydraulic, mechanical, and overall &#xD;
efficiencies of the system. The prototype operated continuously, despite the &#xD;
intermittent behavior characteristic of the Wirtz pump, and achieved a maximum &#xD;
hydraulic efficiency of 72%. The maximum mechanical and overall efficiencies were &#xD;
7.94% and 5.71%, respectively. The pumped flow rates proved to be compatible with &#xD;
the water demands of small family farms. The economic analysis indicated the &#xD;
system’s feasibility, with an implementation cost of R$ 2,500.00. Compared with the &#xD;
avoided cost of conventional water supply, the system presented a discounted &#xD;
payback period shorter than the estimated service life of the equipment and a levelized &#xD;
energy cost of R$ 1.00 per m³ of pumped water. The results demonstrate that floating &#xD;
water wheels constitute a sustainable, low-cost, and technically feasible solution for &#xD;
isolated rural communities.

Abstract: The energy crisis is a reality, and the problems arising from it are intensifying every &#xD;
day due to uncontrolled population growth and degrading anthropogenic actions. &#xD;
Therefore, it is essential to search for alternative energy sources to meet global energy &#xD;
needs without compromising future generations. Microalgae are photosynthetic &#xD;
organisms, and their biomass is attractive for energy generation because it is &#xD;
composed of macromolecules with a binding effect. The microalgae species Chlorella &#xD;
vulgaris Benj. can be cultivated in aquaculture wastewater, as it develops by absorbing &#xD;
nutrients from the effluent. The improper disposal of urban pruning waste (RPU), &#xD;
organic material that takes a long time to degrade, is also an environmental challenge &#xD;
that requires attention, with the use of this waste for energy being a sustainable &#xD;
alternative. In floodplain areas, it is possible to observe the massive growth of the &#xD;
aquatic macrophyte Typha domingensis (cattail), a plant that can become invasive and &#xD;
harm the development of other living beings, reducing the biodiversity of the &#xD;
environment. Cattail has an interesting chemical composition and can be used to &#xD;
generate energy in the form of briquettes. In this context, this study sought to produce &#xD;
briquettes from the integration of Chlorella vulgaris, Typha domingensis, and Urban &#xD;
Pruning Waste (UPW) biomass, with subsequent evaluation of the energy and binding &#xD;
potential of each biomass. The experiments were conducted under laboratory &#xD;
conditions. The microalgae were cultivated in aquaculture wastewater and the &#xD;
briquettes were made in a handmade press, without the application of heat. The results &#xD;
obtained were satisfactory, especially with briquettes produced from the integration of &#xD;
biomass (80% RPU + 10% C. vulgaris + Typha domingensis), which presented &#xD;
maximum breaking force (139,80 N), mechanical resistance (1.14 MPa), and higher &#xD;
calorific value (17.179 MJ/kg). The data therefore suggest that the inclusion of organic &#xD;
and natural biomass, especially in an integrated form, is extremely viable in the &#xD;
production of briquettes, resulting in competitive products that represent a sustainable &#xD;
alternative to conventional products of food or chemical origin.

Abstract: Family farming plays a strategic role in food security, environmental sustainability,&#xD;
and socioeconomic development, especially in agro-productive regions such as&#xD;
Cascavel. However, this sector faces significant challenges related to land-use&#xD;
intensification, reduction of vegetation cover, and the need to incorporate&#xD;
sustainable technologies that ensure the productive viability of rural properties. In&#xD;
this context, this study aimed to identify and classify environmental fragility levels&#xD;
and to assess the potential for renewable energy implementation in family farming&#xD;
properties in Cascavel–PR, Brazil, through an integrated geospatial approach. The&#xD;
methodology was based on the environmental fragility framework proposed by&#xD;
Ross (1994), distinguishing potential fragility, associated with natural terrain&#xD;
conditions, and emergent fragility, resulting from the interaction between physical&#xD;
factors and anthropogenic land use. Slope was classified according to technical&#xD;
parameters from EMBRAPA and IBGE; land use and land cover were analyzed&#xD;
using MapBiomas Collection 10; and Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) were&#xD;
evaluated in accordance with Brazilian Forest Code (Law No. 12,651/2012). A&#xD;
total of 67 rural properties distributed across eight districts of the municipality were&#xD;
analyzed, with six selected for multitemporal analysis of land use and land cover&#xD;
between 2015 and 2023. The results revealed a predominance of moderate&#xD;
(50.7%) and high (40.3%) environmental fragility levels, mainly associated with&#xD;
undulating terrain and intensified agricultural use. The estimated energy potential&#xD;
indicated an average productivity of 1,515 kWh/kWp·year for photovoltaic&#xD;
generation, demonstrating not only the technical feasibility of solar energy in rural&#xD;
contexts, but also its potential as a complementary strategy for income generation&#xD;
and strengthening family farming systems. Unlike conventional approaches that&#xD;
assess energy potential in isolation, the results show that its feasibility is directly&#xD;
related to local environmental conditions, such as slope, vegetation cover, and the&#xD;
presence of protected areas. It is concluded that the integration of environmental&#xD;
planning and energy use allows not only the mitigation of impacts in more&#xD;
sensitive areas, but also the optimization of land use. Furthermore, this integration&#xD;
may contribute to the reorientation of territorial planning in family farming and to&#xD;
the development of public policies aimed at sustainable land use, productive&#xD;
diversification, and the promotion of environmentally suitable energy systems, in&#xD;
alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.
