Abstract: Teaching programming remains a major challenge, particularly in helping students understand
introductory concepts and stay motivated. Codeverse: Hacking Worlds, an educational digital
RPG developed in this work and based on the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy, is designed to teach
introductory programming content and provide an alternative way to reinforce foundational
programmingconcepts.Theresearchwascarriedoutinseveralstages,includingaliteraturereview,
a focus group with teachers to gather requirements, the creation of the Game Design Document,
game development, the construction of a didactic sequence, and classroom implementation
with students in the Technical High School in Informatics program. Data collection and
analysis involved triangulation of pre- and post-tests, observations recorded in a logbook, and a
questionnaire, providing an integrated view of learning, usability, and engagement. The results
show learning gains with a normalized Hake gain of 0.40, along with evidence of increased
autonomy, logical reasoning, and student engagement in the proposed activities. The findings
indicate that educational digital games based on learning theories or taxonomies, such as Bloom’s
Taxonomy, can enhance teaching and learning experiences in Computer Science. The evidence
supports the conclusion that Codeverse has effectively integrated the cognitive, affective, and
procedural dimensions of learning, making it a playful and accessible pedagogical resource.

Abstract: Cultural diversity has always been present in societies, but it is in contemporary times
that it has gained greater prominence in the educational field. In this context,
Multicultural and Intercultural Science Education is configured as an approach that
values different knowledge and identities, challenging homogeneous views of science
and culture. In light of these assumptions, we developed a WebQuest as a theoretical
methodological resource aimed at undergraduate students in Pedagogy, with the
objective of articulating theory and practice in the mobilization of multicultural and
intercultural principles in science teaching in the early years. The investigation, with a
qualitative approach, focused on the elaboration and validation of this WebQuest, in
order to ensure theoretical solidity, methodological coherence, and pedagogical
relevance. The process was organized in stages that included initial construction,
validation of the structure and content, re-elaboration, and empirical validation with
participants, culminating in its final version. The data analysis was developed in light
of the adopted theoretical framework and the contributions of experts, allowing for the
problematization of potentialities and limitations. In this context, the research aims to
validate a WebQuest as a theoretical-methodological process for promoting
Multicultural and Intercultural Science Education in the initial training of educators,
articulating theory and practice in the training of professionals sensitive to cultural
diversity. With these purposes, we seek to answer the following guiding questions:
“What is revealed in the totality of the WebQuest as a theoretical-methodological
research resource in a qualitative investigation in the field of teacher training for
science education?”; “How does the WebQuest enhance the problematization of
sociocultural issues in science education, favoring the construction of critical and
contextualized teaching in the initial training of educators?”; and “To what extent does
the validation process of the WebQuest ensure its consistency as a theoretical
methodological resource for qualitative research in the field of teacher training in
science?”. The main results indicate that the WebQuest presents theoretical relevance
in relation to the assumptions of Multicultural and Intercultural Science Education,
structural clarity, and formative potential for articulating scientific knowledge and
sociocultural issues in the school context. The contributions of the experts promoted
adjustments to the WebQuest. Furthermore, empirical validation contributed
significantly to the improvement of the WebQuest, by highlighting its applicability and
pedagogical coherence. We conclude that the WebQuest is a promising theoretical
methodological resource for the initial training of educators, by incorporating cultural
diversity into science teaching. We also highlight the relevance of the validation
process, which is still little explored in science education research.

Abstract: Corporate governance in financial institutions has been discussed in light of environments
marked by information asymmetry, regulatory pressure, and risk exposure, in which control and
monitoring structures may affect funding decisions, the granting of resources, and outcomes.
Grounded in Agency Theory and Stakeholder Theory, this dissertation aims to analyze the
influence of corporate governance on funding costs, credit granting conditions, and the financial
performance of financial institutions in BRICS countries. The study is organized in the format
of three quantitative articles and uses panel data from listed financial institutions, extracted from
the Refinitiv Eikon® database, covering the period from 2020 to 2024, including Brazil, Russia,
India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. The
analyses were conducted using the Stata® software, through panel data regressions for
aggregated models and country-level models. The results indicate that the governance pillar and
board independence do not present homogeneous effects across countries and across the three
dimensions analyzed, with different signs and levels of statistical significance observed for
funding costs, debt financing, and financial performance, which reinforces the dependence on
the institutional and regulatory context. It is concluded that corporate governance is related to
financial performance and financial decisions in a manner conditioned by the institutional and
regulatory characteristics of each country. As a theoretical contribution, the study expands the
understanding of the relationship between corporate governance and financial performance in
financial institutions by demonstrating that such associations are not homogeneous across
countries and depend on the institutional context. As a practical contribution, the findings
provide support for boards of directors, managers, and policymakers in defining corporate
governance structures and practices more aligned with national characteristics and with the
objectives of stability and efficiency of the financial system. At the social level, the study is
linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by evidencing how the relationships
between corporate governance, funding costs, credit granting, and financial performance
dialogue with the expansion of access to financial services, institutional strengthening, and the
promotion of more transparent and responsible decision-making structures in the financial
sector in emerging economies. The originality of the study consists of the integrated approach
to three dimensions: funding costs, credit granting, and financial performance, in the context of
BRICS, offering recent comparative evidence in a field still marked by fragmented results.

Abstract: Exploration of microbial diversity along with genetic engineering allows the
use and optimization of enzyme sources for use in the biotechnology industry.
Analysis of the sequenced genome of Caulobacter crescentus demonstrates that it
has numerous genes induced by agroindustrial residues and biomass, which encode
enzymes used in industrial processes, including cellulases, xylanases and five
different β-xylosidases. These enzymes are part of a growing demand in various
industrial sectors, such as baking, paper clarification, fabric layering, animal feed,
among others. In the present work, the mutant C. crescentus strain that
overexpresses the xynA1 gene (CCNA_02894) encoding a bacterial endo-1-β
xylanase (EC: 3.2.1.8) was created. The xynA1 gene was subcloned into the pAS22
vector, which features an xylose-inducible promoter that replaced the original xynA1
gene promoter, leading to an increase of more than 20 copies of the cloned gene
product per bacterial cell. The conditional mutant obtained was named BS-xynA1 and
grown in minimal medium M2 supplemented with xylose 0.3% (w/v) addition of
different agro-indurstrial residues. The highest extracellular xylanase activity was
17.22 U mL-1 and specific activity 278.64 U mg-1 after 18 hours of bacterial growth in
the presence of 0.2% (w / v) corn straw. Aliquots of crude enzyme extract with this
high specific activity were used in the different tests applicability of biotechnological
processes in regional flour industry baking laboratory. In baking tests, enzymatic
addition reduced beating time by 9% and increased bread height by 18.2% compared
to control, in addition to improving alveolar structure formation. In alveograph tests
the enzymatic addition generated an increase of the following parameters compared
to the controls: 18.8% increase in mass extensibility; 8.3% increase in mass
deformation energy, showing an increase in mass force; and 5.2% increase in
elasticity; In addition, the enzymatic addition also led to a 6.0% reduction in
toughness and a 20.6% reduction in the toughness/elasticity ratio in relation to the
control, demonstrating the decrease in mass stiffness by enzyme action. With the
results of the analysis it was concluded that the enzyme extract containing xylanase I
has applicability as a processing aid in the bakery industry because of its ability to
improve the rheological characteristics of the dough, increasing the bread volume
and improving the alveolar structure of the crumb. To our knowledge to date, this is
the first time that xylanase I produced by homologous expression in C. crescentus
has been successfully used in the bakery industry. This was made possible by the
unpublished strain C. crescentus BS-xynA1.
