Abstract: The pursuit of a higher quality of life has become increasingly prominent in the modern world, which has consequently led to a continuous rise in electricity demand. In this context, photovoltaic solar energy stands out as a sustainable alternative widely adopted in several countries. This study aims to conduct a theoretical analysis and the sizing of a photovoltaic system for a consumer unit classified under Group A. The evaluation was carried out considering the future installation of the system in the city of Paranavaí, located in the northwestern region of the state of Paraná, Brazil. To develop the study, essential aspects were examined, such as the contracted demand and the tariff modality suitable for the typical energy consumption profile of Group A consumers. Subsequently, the photovoltaic generation system was sized to supply the required power for the unit, followed by an economic-financial feasibility analysis. The results indicate that no adjustment to the contracted demand is necessary and that the green time-of-use tariff modality remains the most appropriate option. It was also determined that the required generation capacity to meet the consumer’s needs is approximately 168.9 kWp. The financial return analysis showed an estimated payback period of 5.3 years, demonstrating the attractiveness of the system.

Abstract: Given the current socio-environmental crisis, it is crucial to strengthen public policies that articulate traditional knowledge, sustainable production, and environmental remediation, ensuring that rural education operates as an instrument of resistance and transformation. Overcoming exclusionary paradigms, Environmental Education and Rural Education assume a significant role in promoting rural territorial development, acting not only as adaptation but as an emancipatory axis in the reconfiguration of the relationship between education and the countryside. This research aimed to analyze the macro-trends of Environmental Education present in the conceptions and educational practices of teachers in Municipal Early Childhood Education Centers (CMEI), both rural and urban, in Toledo/PR. This research sought to situate the macro-trends of Environmental Education as a fundamental element in the formation of educational conceptions and practices in different school contexts in the Municipality of Toledo/PR. The results indicate that the promotion of socio-environmental awareness will be built through a critical, emancipatory, and transformative Environmental Education. In the context of Rural Education, even with the need for more effective public policies, this perspective offers solid support for local identities and sustainable practices. It must be understood, however, that the integration of these approaches is of fundamental importance for addressing environmental and social challenges. The research pointed to the imperative need to overcome linearity in pedagogical planning, such that the documentary analysis revealed little emphasis on training for active citizenship and social transformation. The absence of distinct and contextualized elements in the Pedagogical Projects (PPPs) of the rural and urban institutions researched suggests the urgent need to revise pedagogical strategies, reinforcing the urgency of an Educational Praxis that values peasant identity and promotes critical-social development. In conclusion, based on the discussions presented, Critical Environmental Education, combined with Rural Education, is a powerful approach to valuing the rural context and fostering sustainable actions, combining environmental balance with critical thinking.

Abstract: Biosurfactants, amphiphilic compounds produced by microorganisms, have attracted increasing interest due to their biodegradability, low toxicity, and effectiveness under diverse environmental conditions, making them promising alternatives to synthetic surfactants in remediation processes and industrial applications. This dissertation is structured into two complementary chapters. The first chapter presents a systematic review on the prospecting of biosurfactants in transitional ecosystems, such as mangroves, port areas, and coastal zones, with emphasis on their applications in bioremediation. Sixteen articles published between 2015 and 2025 were analyzed, selected from international databases (Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed). The studies indicate a predominance of biosurfactants belonging to the glycolipid and lipopeptide classes, produced mainly by bacteria of the genera Pseudomonas, Bacillus, and Rhodococcus, as well as yeasts such as Candida and Starmerella. A growing trend toward the use of agro-industrial residues as substrates was also observed, reinforcing the alignment of these technologies with sustainability principles and the circular economy. The reported applications demonstrate high efficiency of biosurfactants in the solubilization and mobilization of pollutants, including hydrocarbons and heavy metals, highlighting their strategic role in the bioremediation of impacted transitional environments. In the second chapter, an experimental study was conducted to prospect biosurfactant-producing bacteria in port areas of the municipality of Piúma, Espírito Santo, Brazil, characterized by contamination from diesel oil. Sediment samples were collected from points of high vessel traffic, resulting in the isolation of seven bacterial strains. These isolates were cultivated in minimal salt medium (MSM), using diesel oil as the sole carbon source. The surfactant activity of the produced metabolites was evaluated using drop-collapse and oil-spreading tests, as well as the emulsification index (E24), employing diesel oil and gasoline as oily phases. The biosurfactants exhibited low emulsifying activity against diesel oil (E24 &lt; 10%); however, they demonstrated moderate efficiency in the emulsification of gasoline, with indices reaching approximately 35% for some isolates, indicating greater affinity for light hydrocarbons. Taken together, the findings from the systematic review and the experimental study reinforce the potential of biosurfactants as valuable tools for the remediation of contaminated environments and highlight the importance of transitional ecosystems— such as mangroves and port areas—as reservoirs of microorganisms with biotechnological relevance. The integration of these approaches contributes to advancing knowledge on the microbial diversity involved in biosurfactant production, their applications, and the remaining challenges related to large-scale production and the economic feasibility of these bioproducts in environmental and industrial contexts.

    <summary type="text">Title: Pirólise lenta da cama de aviário: modelagem, simulação e análise de um reator de forno rotativo em escala piloto

Abstract: The valorization of agro-industrial waste, such as poultry litter, through thermochemical processes is a sustainable alternative for generating value-added products, such as biochar. However, the phenomenological modeling of slow pyrolysis in pilot-scale rotary kiln reactors is still a poorly explored area. In this context, this study aimed to model, simulate, and analyze the slow pyrolysis of poultry litter, using operational data from a pilot-scale reactor operated by the startup Terraxy, incubated by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Two steady-state models were developed and evaluated: one with constant heating throughout the reactor (MAS) and another with a central heating zone (MAC), more faithfully representing the experimental configuration. Batch simulations aided in the selection of the first-order kinetic model with three parallel reactions, formulated by THURNER e MANN (1981), to represent the biomass  decomposition. The results indicated a biochar yield of approximately 30% for both models, below the experimental value of 39,4%. However, the MAC exhibited more realistic thermal behavior, with temperature profiles that captured the heat regeneration phenomenon and showed a difference of only 20 K (less than 1 standard deviation) compared to the temperature measured on the drum wall. Through a parametric sensitivity analysis, it was possible to correlate the influence of operational parameters, such as the heat supplied and the solids feed flow rate, with the process stability, identifying conditions that can lead to the extinction of pyrolysis. This work demonstrates the applicability of phenomenological models for the analysis and optimization of pilot-scale pyrolysis reactors, providing valuable support for process control and scalability.
