Abstract: This thesis aims to investigate the meanings that Ailton Krenak attributes to the identity and temporality of the Krenak people in a selection of his texts published from 2019 onward, utilizing discourse analysis under the epistemological perspectives of decolonialism and Epistemologies of the South. Our theoretical-methodological approach is grounded in Stuart Hall’s (2014) reflections on identity, which posit that identities, as well as the identifications subjects manifest throughout life, are constantly under construction, being fluid and subject to change and transformation. From this perspective, identities are constructed through relations with the Other, as these relationships define the differences between groups. Furthermore, we employ the regimes of historicity proposed by François Hartog (2021) as an analytical tool to understand how different human groups assign meaning and order to time. We also draw upon the categories of "space of experience" and "horizon of expectation," developed by Reinhart Koselleck (2006), to guide our understanding of human relationships with the past and the future, respectively. The timeframe was chosen in light of the Mariana (MG) disaster in 2015. This event caused the death/coma of the Watu (Doce River), a fact that led Ailton Krenak to intensify his critiques of the Western, capitalist, colonialist, and presentist world in which we live. The author demonstrates a clear nonconformity with the linear idea of time and the Anthropocene, particularly regarding a human experience detached from the Earth and other living beings in nature. The sources selected for this research include the books: Ideas to Postpone the End of the World (2020a); Life Is Not Useful (2020b); Ancestral Future (2022); and the texts: On Reciprocity and the Capacity to Join Worlds Together (2021a); Indigenous Territories as Places of Origin (2021b). In his writings, Ailton dialogues with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous authors, fostering reflections in search of an alternative proposal that allows for new relationships between humans and the Earth. In his view, to ensure human survival on Earth, we must discard anthropocentrism—especially exacerbated consumerism, one of its defining traits—and replace them with a culture where humans maintain a horizontal relationship with other living beings, and where the expectation of the future is guided by ancestral traditions of protection and non-destructive coexistence with the natural world. Thus, we argue that at many points in his writing, Ailton identifies with the philosophy of Buen Vivir (Good Living), common among the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. Ancestry, as a technique for survival and the preservation of peoples' memory, forms the foundation of the Buen Vivir philosophy and the temporal order inherent to Ailton's discourse. Ancestral thought envisions a fluidity between past, present, and future. In this thesis, we conclude that the order of time that gives meaning to Ailton's discourse is cyclical.

Abstract: This thesis investigates the implementation of Civic-Military Schools (CMSs) in the state of Paraná between 2020 and 2024, seeking to understand their relationship to contemporary disputes surrounding Brazilian public education. Based on the hypothesis that school militarization is not an isolated phenomenon but part of a broader process of educational reorganization influenced by ultraconservative agendas, we analyze how this model aligns with the legacy of the School Without Party Movement, recent political transformations, and disputes over hegemony in the educational field. The methodology combined a documentary analysis of legislation, manuals, guidelines, digital news articles, and institutional materials produced by the National Civic-Military Schools Program and the Paraná Civic-Military Schools Program, with interviews involving ten teachers who worked in militarized schools in the western region of the state during the study period. The investigation demonstrated that militarization extends beyond the mere presence of military personnel in the school environment; it constitutes a process of reorganizing educational relations by prioritizing discipline, hierarchy, civic values, and behavioral control. The analyzed documents highlight the centrality of these values to the detriment of pedagogical autonomy, democratic management, and critical education. The interviews revealed tensions, resistance, and contradictions inherent in the teachers’ concrete experiences, calling into question the pedagogical effects attributed to the model. The thesis concludes that CMSs are part of a broader struggle over the meanings of public education, linking ultraconservatism to mechanisms of institutional control while simultaneously facing resistance and forms of contestation from various civil society subjects and organizations.

Abstract: This thesis aims to analyze the different struggles waged by workers in Paraíba during the early 1960s, with an emphasis on the conflicts fought at the Conciliation and Judgment Board of João Pessoa. Alongside these conflicts, I analyze struggles developed on other fronts, such as in the streets, in unions, and others, to build knowledge about the worlds of Paraíba workers between 1961 and 1964. Using English social historiography, mainly the theoretical and methodological contributions of E. P. Thompson and his insights on concepts central to this work (social class, class struggle, experience), I investigate forms of domination, exploitation, and resistance among workers at the Companhia Paraíba de Cimento Portland and IRF Matarazzo factories (both located in João Pessoa), and the Companhia de Tecidos Rio Tinto (located in the city of Rio Tinto), based on a set of documents distributed among labor lawsuits, newspapers, the report of the State Commission for Truth and Preservation of Memory, as well as official statistical data and oral sources. Situated within the field of the social history of labor, this thesis discusses, among other things, the situation of the working class in Paraíba (specifically a segment located on the coast), the meanings given to labor legislation, especially in the conflicts triggered in the Labor Courts, encompassing the period between 1961 and 1964, a time of social upheaval in Brazil that would lead, in the historical process, to the business-military coup that dismantled the organization of the working class in the state of Paraíba, as happened throughout the country.

Abstract: The process of occupation of the Southwest of Paraná began in the 19th century, under the logic of Portuguese colonization, in the region of Campos de Palmas. The western portion of the region, however, was more systematically colonized from the 1940s onward, with the creation of the Colônia Agrícola Nacional General Osório (CANGO), mainly through migrants from Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. This territory was already inhabited by Indigenous peoples and caboclos, which highlights the region’s social complexity. Within the context of CANGO’s activities, part of the land in the Southwest was involved in legal disputes. This conflictual scenario culminated in the Revolta dos Posseiros of 1957, an armed uprising that resulted in the expulsion of private colonization companies such as Clevelândia Industrial e Territorial Ltda. (CITLA). These companies engaged in land grabbing practices, using violence and armed militias, often in articulation with the state government of Paraná. Following their expulsion, the area was declared of public utility in 1962. In this context, the Grupo Executivo para as Terras do Sudoeste do Paraná (GETSOP) was created, with the purpose of regularizing land tenure, issuing property titles, and promoting agricultural modernization. Despite its activities until 1973, agrarian problems persisted, as evidenced by the loss of land among peasants due to indebtedness, forced sales, and limitations imposed by family succession. Simultaneously, initiatives of social and political organization emerged, such as the Associação de Estudos, Orientação e Assistência Rural (ASSESOAR), founded in 1966. Established by Belgian priests of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart Missionaries, with the participation of youth from the Juventude Agrária Católica (JAC), the organization developed actions inspired by the debates of the Second Vatican Council, including Reflection Groups, in which peasants critically analyzed their realities. Other entities, such as Rural Workers’ Unions, also played a significant role, becoming spaces of dispute between assistentialist and more combative perspectives during the 1970s. These experiences contributed to the formation of political, social, and class consciousness among peasants, who began to demand rights and better production conditions. This formative process, articulated with agricultural modernization and broader social contradictions, intensified the struggle for land, culminating in the creation of the Movimento dos Agricultores Sem Terra do Sudoeste do Paraná (MASTES) in 1983. The movement carried out land occupations and roadside encampments, pressuring the state for agrarian reform policies. This research aims to analyze the formative process of peasants in the region between the 1960s and 1980s, considering their organizational experiences and social practices. To this end, it examines the regional historical context, theoretical debates on the peasantry, and the work of ASSESOAR through three dimensions: community, knowledge, and economy. The analysis also includes MASTES and concrete achievements, such as the settlements José Eduardo Raduan and Vitória da União. The study is based on oral interviews with local leaders and documentary sources, including bulletins, booklets, newspapers, photographs, and institutional records produced during the period. It thus understands the Southwest of Paraná as a space of intense social and political struggles and of the formation of peasants as active historical subjects.
