Abstract: This dissertation analyzes the novel Ipê e Sakura: em busca da identidade (1988), by Hiroko Nakamura, considering its place within Japanese Brazilian women’s literature and its articulation with the historical novel genre. It is based on the assumption that this literary production constitutes a significant space for representing Japanese immigration to Brazil from a female perspective, historically marginalized in official narratives. Initially, the study discusses the historical novel as an analytical category, highlighting its relationship with historical writing and its ability to articulate memory and fiction. It then examines Nikkei women’s literature, emphasizing its emergence in the context of the 80th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Brazil and its role in the construction of memorial and identity discourses. The analysis focuses on the characters Mizue, Hanako, and Naoko, understood as representatives of different generations of Japanese Brazilian women. Through these figures, the research investigates processes of identity construction, generational conflicts, and tensions between tradition and cultural adaptation. While Mizue and Hanako express values associated with the first generation of immigrants, such as gambarê and gaman, Naoko reflects the reconfiguration of these references in the third generation. Thus, Nakamura’s novel contributes to understanding Japanese immigration as a process marked by continuities and ruptures, highlighting hybrid forms of belonging within the Japanese Brazilian experience.

Abstract: This work aimed to analyze the historical process of implementing the Unified Health System (SUS) in the municipality of Terra Roxa – Paraná. The research addresses the insertion, organization, and provision of health services in the municipality before the creation of the SUS and in the initial years of its constitutionalization, seeking not only to revisit this historical path but also to identify the impasses and challenges faced, as well as to understand the perspectives of the different actors involved – managers, workers, service providers, and users. The analysis also considered social participation in health policy through the Municipal Health Council. To understand the object within the empirical reality, interviews were conducted, guiding data collection and raising new questions, allowing the study to be developed based on oral narratives. The accounts obtained reveal themselves as important records of social memory, expressing recollections about public health before, during, and after the implementation of the SUS (Unified Health System) in the municipality.

Abstract: This dissertation analyses the concept of fascism developed by Brazilian intellectual Maria Lacerda de Moura (1887–1945) and her proposals for anti-fascist resistance, observing the influence of international anarcho-individualist debates on her thinking. The author had a wide circulation of her texts and lectures throughout Latin America and Europe, and established contacts and intellectual affinities in these spaces, especially in Argentina, Uruguay, Spain, and France. In order to fulfil the objective of the work, we analysed Lacerda's intellectual formation based on her theoretical and political divergences. These divergences, added to the context faced by intellectual women in the early 20th century, help to explain the silence that lasted for years regarding her anti-fascist action and production. In addition to her prolific works in Brazil, Maria Lacerda de Moura was part of an international intellectual network. This network facilitated the dissemination of her works and allowed her to establish dialogues with other anarchist intellectuals, especially anarcho-individualists, which was the tendency that underpinned the author's thinking. This intellectual network was mainly supported by eclectic publications, such as the Spanish magazine Estudios (1928–1937) and the Argentine magazine Nervio (1931–1936), to which Lacerda made significant contributions. Estudios played a fundamental role in Lacerda's theoretical development, as its focus on neo-Malthusianism, sexual emancipation, eugenics, and psychoanalysis directly aligned with the author's interests. The theoretical perspective produced by the magazine's contributors reverberates Lacerda's intellectual output, undergoing a particular reworking by the writer. Based on the articulation of recurring perspectives in Latin American anti-fascism and debates specific to individualist anarchism, obtained from her international intellectual network, Maria Lacerda de Moura developed her interpretation of fascism with a focus on subjective and cultural aspects. Despite understanding the phenomenon as the result of a crisis in the industrial capitalist system, the author added to this reading a subjective view that advocated the psychological and moral formation of individuals to reflect on the reasons for the emergence of fascism and propose strategies that she considered effective for anti-fascist resistance. This perspective brings unique characteristics to Maria Lacerda de Moura's anti-fascist thinking, placing sexual emancipation – especially of women – and the inner, mental development of individuals to abandon ‘herd servility’ at the center of the anti-fascist debate. The inner “elevation” of individuals would make them masters of themselves, and only then would they be able to resist fascism and all forms of authoritarianism culturally rooted in patriarchal, capitalist and clerical oppression.

Abstract: This research analyzes the novel The Bell Jar (2019), by Sylvia Plath, using The Journals of Sylvia Plath: 1950–1962 (2017) as auxiliary bibliography, with the aim of investigating the representations of female madness and the forms through which psychic suffering was produced and managed in the context of postwar United States. Rather than reconstructing the author’s biography or describing the empirical functioning of psychiatric institutions, the study approaches the literary work as a historically situated symbolic elaboration, in which subjective experiences, medical discourses, and gender norms intersect. The central problem is to understand how the narrative constructs madness as a female experience shaped by contradictory social expectations, while also examining how psychiatry appears in the novel both as a space of care and as a dispositif of normalization and social reintegration. Methodologically, the research conducts a historical-literary analysis of selected passages from the novel, confronting them with entries from Plath’s journals not as factual confirmation, but as interpretative support for understanding the processes of subjectivation at stake. It argues that Esther Greenwood’s madness is not presented as an isolated pathology, but as the result of tensions between individual aspirations, gender roles, and institutional dispositifs regulating femininity in the period. By problematizing the notion of cure, the study highlights the limits of psychiatric recovery as a functional return to a social order that continues to produce suffering. Thus, this research contributes to the historical understanding of the relationships between gender, subjectivity, and psychiatric knowledge, as well as to debates on the medicalization of female distress in the second half of the twentieth century. At the same time, it illuminates central aspects of Sylvia Plath’s trajectory, marked by experiences of loss, academic pressure, marital tensions, and rigidly gendered social expectations. Her biography is not mobilized as a causal or reductive explanation of her literary production, but as a field of symbolic disputes in which medical discourses, norms of femininity, and strategies of selfelaboration intertwine. In this sense, the analysis of her life allows for an understanding of how her experience was simultaneously singular and historically situated, revealing the tensions between creation, suffering, and the dispositifs of power that act upon the female body and subjectivity.
