Abstract: Caves developed in sandstones of the Botucatu Formation, at the transition between the
Volcanic Plateau and the Sedimentary Plateau of the Paraná Basin, are frequently interpreted
as paleoburrows associated with Quaternary megafauna. However, uncertainties remain
regarding the genesis of these structures and the dynamics of the clastic sediments that fill
their conduits. This dissertation aimed to characterize the clastic sedimentation processes
responsible for the infilling of the Legru Cave System, located in Porto União, Santa Catarina
State, Brazil, and to evaluate their implications for the geomorphological evolution of these
cavities, based on speleometric, stratigraphic and sedimentological analyses, as well as
Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dating. Six categories of primary clastic facies
genesis were identified: (i) transitional flows between mud and hyperconcentrated flow
(PMSm, AMSm, RMSm); (ii) cohesive debris flows stricto sensu (GMSm, GMm/SMD base);
(iii) low-cohesion or partially washed debris flows with concentrated detrital input (MSGm,
MSGs); (iv) collapse breccias (Gm); (v) shallow diluted mudflows (GMm/SMd top); and (vi)
alternation of shallow mudflows of different densities, shallow non-cohesive debris flows
(Gm lenses), diluted shallow mudflows and shallow mudflows (OMd and OMm lenses),
configuring a small cavernous alluvial fan (LSMd [Gm+OMm/OMd]). Part of the facies
records post-depositional diagenetic alterations, with three reducing and two oxidizing
episodes in the main conduit and one reducing phase in the secondary conduit. OSL ages
indicate sedimentation between approximately 107,000 and 16,000 years BP. Accumulation
rates reveal slow and episodic sedimentation between MIS 5 and MIS 3 (0.0144 ± 0.0030
mm/year), with intensification between 32,000 and 16,000 years BP (0.077 ± 0.008 mm/year).
It is concluded that cave infilling occurred episodically through high-density flows, controlled
by the geological and hydrological dynamics of the sandstone, with megafauna acting as a
secondary element during the Upper Pleistocene.

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the spatio-temporal configuration of deep tubular well drilling in the Southwest mesoregion of Paraná between 2018 and 2023, interpreting this process as an expression of the interconnectedness between climate, territory, and the use of natural resources. The research is grounded in the hypothesis that the general community lacks knowledge regarding groundwater recharge mechanisms. The central problem posits that periods of severe drought induce an increase in drilling as a palliative and immediate response to water insecurity, frequently overlooking the recharge capacity and natural limits of the Serra Geral Aquifer (a fractured system). This dynamic reveals an emergency response logic that, by recurrence, tends to naturalize the intensive exploitation of the subsoil. Such a context exacerbates the risk of water scarcity, particularly due to overexploitation and a management history dissociated from surface and groundwater, which reinforces fragmented water planning practices. The methodology involved the collection of secondary data from the Information System for Water Resources Management (SIGARH/IAT), followed by statistical systematization and spatialization via Geographic Information Systems (GIS), allowing for an integrated interpretation of the spatial and temporal patterns of drilling. The results demonstrate a sharp growth in groundwater exploration across all 42 municipalities in the region, with significant prominence in Francisco Beltrão, Dois Vizinhos, and Pato Branco. The findings evidence the intensification of aquifer use as a recurring alternative to surface water shortages. It was identified that the agricultural sector is the primary driver of demand, followed by uses in public administration, industry, and sanitation. The volume of wells in each sector illustrates the centrality of groundwater in sustaining productive activities and essential services. The analysis indicates that such expansion occurs predominantly as a reaction to extreme climatic events, highlighting the fragility of preventive policies and the urgency of Environmental Education processes. Such processes must be capable of problematizing the recharge limitations of fractured aquifers, promoting territorial awareness regarding water use, and strengthening participatory, integrated, and sustainable management of regional water resources.

Abstract: In a context of intensified land use and land cover changes and increasing vulnerability of water systems, it becomes essential to understand the physical processes that regulate the dynamics of small watersheds in order to support effective environmental management and conservation actions. In this context, the present research seeks to analyze the hydrogeomorphological dynamics of the Urutago River microbasin, located in Francisco Beltrão, through the integration of morphometric, hydraulic, and sedimentological data. These parameters are correlated with the implications of current environmental legislation, the issues related to its modifications and interpretations, as well as the different land uses and land cover patterns within the study area. Furthermore, the study investigates the behavior of suspended sediment load in the microbasin under different climatic conditions—drought periods, inter-harvest intervals, and flood events—seeking to understand variations in hydrosedimentological processes and their relationship with both anthropogenic and natural system dynamics. The research is structured into two methodological stages. The first consists of a theoretical review and the survey of morphometric data for the study area using QGIS software version 3.34.6. The second stage involves the collection of primary data through field campaigns and laboratory analyses. The Digital Elevation Model (DEM), with a 5 m altimetric resolution, enabled precise watershed delimitation, whose altitudinal range varies between 534.67 and 761.33 m, highlighting well-defined water divides. The microbasin covers an area of 7.27 km², has an elongated shape and low circularity, attributes that indicate a longer surface runoff concentration time and a lower natural predisposition to flash floods. The drainage network, classified as fourth order, exhibits
a dendritic pattern, low sinuosity, and a reduced degree of relief dissection, suggesting relative geomorphological stability and moderate runoff efficiency. However, the spatial analysis of channels along the upper, middle, and lower reaches revealed significant morphological and hydraulic variations related both to longitudinal position, channel bed differentiation within the basin, and anthropogenic interventions. The most preserved stretches, especially in the upper reach, maintain greater vegetation cover and less alteration of the cross-section, whereas the middle and lower sectors show evidence of channel straightening, canalization, and absence of riparian vegetation. Field campaigns demonstrate temporal variability in width, depth, wetted area, velocity, and discharge, reflecting the fluvial system’s sensitivity to seasonal hydrological conditions. The highest discharges occur during periods of greater antecedent precipitation, resulting from the combined increase in cross-sectional area and mean flow velocity. In contrast, during drought conditions, reduced discharge and slower flow predominate.Suspended sediment load shows strong temporal variability, with increases following rainfall events and ubsequent decreases, highlighting the control exerted by rainfall regime, land use, and availability of erodible material. From a legal perspective, the results indicate that although the Brazilian regulatory framework—particularly the Lei nº 12.651 (Brazilian Forest Code)—establishes the protection of Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) along watercourses, the flexibilization of these buffer zones, especially in urban areas, has contributed to the
maintenance of consolidated occupations and reduced the effectiveness of riparian protection. This condition directly reflects the intensification of erosive processes, increased sediment transport, and greater hydrodynamic instability in the most altered river sections. Overall, the findings demonstrate that the current dynamics of the Urutago River are less controlled by its natural geomorphological characteristics and more influenced by anthropogenic transformations associated with land use and the limited enforcement of environmental legislation. Thus, the research reinforces the need for effective implementation of legal standards and restoration of Permanent Preservation Areas as fundamental strategies to maintain hydrosedimentological balance and fluvial stability within the microbasin.

Abstract: This research aims to analyze, from a historical-critical perspective, the Civic-Military educational model implemented in the State of Paraná (2020) and its implications for the conception of civics, citizenship, and the humanizing formation of students, using as a case study the Beatriz Biavatti State Civic-Military School, located in one of the neighborhoods of the municipality of Francisco Beltrão, Paraná. It is worth noting that this thesis stems from the researcher's professional experience as a teacher in the state public school system, understood as a reflective and methodological instrument to analyze the transformations resulting from the transition from a regular school to the Civic-Military model. The problem guiding the investigation is to understand how the conception of civics and citizenship, present in the CivicMilitary educational model, redefines and challenges the formation of a critical and emancipatory citizenship. To this end, a qualitative approach is adopted, and the investigation articulates bibliographic review, document analysis, and a case study. Therefore, this study begins with a literature review and document analysis of the guidelines and regulations of the National Program of Civic-Military Schools (PECIM) and the Program of Civic-Military Colleges of Paraná (PCCM/PR), documents from the Paraná State Department of Education, and institutional materials from the school under investigation. The case study involves systematic observations of school routines, disciplinary practices, and didactic and pedagogical interactions with the 6th and 9th grade classes of Elementary School II and the 3rd year of High School, in addition to semi-structured interviews with teachers, administrators, students, and family members. Content Analysis (Bardin, 2016) was applied to the 5th Edition of the Manual of Civic-Military Schools of Paraná (Paraná, 2025) and to the Curricular Component of Citizenship and Civics (SEED, 2021), allowing the identification of thematic categories and contradictions between institutional discourse and concrete school experience. The research discusses the centrality attributed to discipline, hierarchy, and institutional control, highlighting how these elements tend to resignify civics from a normative logic, frequently associated with obedience and conformity to the detriment of intellectual autonomy, student participation, and critical thinking. The results indicate that the Civic-Military model tends to reorganize the educational space according to a logic aligned with control, standardization, and efficiency, approaching neoliberal rationalities and imposing limits on democratic citizen education. Although presented as an alternative for improving public education, the Civic-Military model restricts pedagogical practices historically linked to critical and humanizing education, reinforcing the need for educational policies committed to the emancipation of individuals and the strengthening of democracy.
