Abstract: Large-scale assessments are widely adopted and recognized by the global educational community; specifically in Brazil, their implementation began in the 1990s, coinciding with the growing influence of neoliberal policies in the field of education. Currently, key assessments in basic education include the Basic Education Assessment System (SAEB), the National Exam for the Certification of Competencies for Youth and Adults (ENCCEJA), and the National High School Exam (ENEM). Although these assessments are presented as tools designed to measure educational quality and inform public policy formulation, their expansion has sparked debate regarding their effects on the curriculum, teaching practice, and the teaching-learning process. In the municipality of Foz do Iguaçu (Paraná), the Municipal Department of Education introduced diagnostic assessments for "Infantil 4" and "Infantil 5" classes (early childhood education groups for 4- and 5-year-olds) in 2021, initially aiming to identify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children's learning. However, these assessments began to take on characteristics typical of large-scale assessments, impacting pedagogical practice. In this context, this research aimed to analyze the implementation of diagnostic assessments in early childhood education—specifically for the "Infantil 4" and "Infantil 5" groups—in Foz do Iguaçu since 2021, seeking to understand their specific features and their impact on the organization of pedagogical work. The research is grounded in the premises of Historical-Cultural Psychology and critical discussions on educational assessment, drawing notably on the work of Vygotsky (1998, 2010, 2021), Facci (2004), Leontiev (2004), Daniels (1999), Lazaretti (2020), Morais and Malanchen (2025), Hadji (2001), Saviani (2020), and Luckesi (2011), among others. This is a qualitative study conducted through bibliographic and documentary research and a case study. Data were gathered via semi-structured interviews with early childhood education teachers from one Municipal Early Childhood Education Center (CMEI) in each of the municipality's twelve regions. The results demonstrate that the implementation of diagnostic assessments has brought early childhood education closer to the logic of large-scale assessments, impacting the organization of pedagogical work, the planning of teaching practices, and teacher autonomy.; Las evaluaciones a gran escala son ampliamente difundidas y reconocidas por la comunidad escolar global.

Abstract: Objective: To analyze the morbidity and mortality of invasive diseases caused by Streptococcus pyogenes in a trinational border municipality, estimating epidemiological indicators of hospitalization and lethality, characterizing the sociodemographic and clinical profile of the cases, and identifying factors associated with death. Methods: An epidemiological, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted with 41 cases of invasive Streptococcus pyogenes diseases reported in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Brazil, between 2023 and 2025. Sociodemographic and
clinical characteristics and patient outcomes were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test and multiple
logistic regression. Results: Among the 41 cases analyzed, there was a predominance of females (56.1%), adults
(53.7%) and residents of Brazil (92.7%). Skin and soft tissue infections accounted for the main infectious focus (39.0%), followed by pulmonary infections (26.8%). Among the patients, 26.8% had comorbidities and 29.3% died. The most frequent signs and symptoms were fever (81.8%), pain (48.5%), hyperemia/purpura/rash (45.5%) and edema (45.5%). The most used antimicrobials were clindamycin (59.4%) and ceftriaxone (50.0%). Lethality remained high and stable during the period analyzed, ranging from 27.3% to 30.4%, with no statistically significant difference between the years (p=0.9812). The logistic regression model did not identify a statistically significant association between death and the sociodemographic or clinical variables evaluated. Conclusions: Invasive diseases caused by S. pyogenes showed high lethality in the city studied, with a predominance of cases in adults, women, and individuals with skin and soft tissue involvement. Although no factors associated with death were identified, the results highlight the epidemiological relevance of these infections in the triple border region and reinforce the need to strengthen epidemiological surveillance, laboratory diagnostic capacity, and early recognition of severe cases.

Abstract: Respiratory diseases that affect the upper and lower respiratory tract are an important cause of morbidity and mortality, being caused by viral agents such as influenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus, hantavirus and coronavirus. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) stands out in this context due to the high frequency of hospitalizations and deaths, especially among vulnerable groups. This study aimed to describe the epidemiological profile of respiratory viruses associated with SARS and to analyze factors associated with death in cases notified by the Padre Germano Lauck Municipal Hospital (HMPGL), located in the triple international border region, from 2016 to 2023. This is an observational, descriptive and analytical study, with a quantitative approach and the use of retrospective data from hospital epidemiological surveillance records. A total of 3,747 complete SARS records with laboratory confirmation for COVID-19, influenza, or other respiratory viruses and with information on clinical evolution were included. The variables analyzed included gender, age group, presence of comorbidities, use of Oseltamivir, vaccination, admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), and outcome (discharge or death). Descriptive analysis and multivariate logistic regression were performed to identify factors associated with death, stratifying by etiological agent. There was a predominance of COVID-19 cases (61%), followed by other respiratory viruses (33.4%) and influenza (6.8%). The overall death rate was 28.4%. Advanced age, male gender, higher number of comorbidities, and ICU admission were significantly associated with increased risk of death, especially among COVID-19 and influenza cases. Vaccination against COVID-19 showed a protective effect, reducing the probability of death. Among influenza cases, the use of oseltamivir was associated with ICU admission, suggesting its predominant use in contexts of greater clinical severity. We conclude that SARS remains associated with high hospital morbidity and mortality, with consistent clinical determinants among different viral agents.

para apoyar la formulación de políticas públicas más humanas e integradoras, centradas en la vivienda, la inclusión social y la justicia.; This thesis investigates narratives and survival strategies of the homeless population in the city of Foz do Iguaçu (PR), located in a tri-national region between Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina, marked by intense migratory flows and social inequalities typical of border areas. Based on theoretical contributions on social exclusion, resistance, and urban resilience in peripheral contexts, and grounded in the concepts of space and citizenship, the research is classified as applied, with a qualitative approach and descriptive-explanatory objectives, developed through listening to life histories, semi-structured interviews, and participant observation. The results show that the studied group creates strategies and mechanisms for collective protection, obtains informal income, and organizes solidarity networks, in a scenario that also reveals precariousness, social exclusion, broken family ties, unemployment, violence, and a lack of effective public policies. At the same time, they point to paths for practices of
resistance and urban resilience. It is evident that the reality of this population goes beyond statistical data, demanding an understanding that articulates education, exclusion, and citizenship, to support the formulation of more humane and inclusive
public policies, focused on shelter, social inclusion, and justice.
